The quest for the perfect Kebab in the land of Schnitzel

by Phú Lê, degree student in Media

We arrived in Graz, Austria after a long journey starting from bus ride to plane flight and finally a train ride, however the stunning beauty of the Alps and the historic buildings of Austria (= Itävalta in Finnish) made us forgotten all about the tiredness.

Four men backside to the camera standing on a mountain in sun shine.

After burning calories we don’t only admire the scenery – we miss kebab!

The purpose of this trip is to attend a game (= peli) design workshop at FH Joanneum where students from universities around Europe (= Eurooppa) team up and design an educational game within two weeks. Myself, Phu, and Rolands have teamed up along with 3 other students (1 from Austria, 1 from Portugal and 1 from Romania) so we have quite an international group which resulted in some fruitful teamwork and you can test our game here:

Yet, aside from the intensive game jamming at the FH Joanneum, we also managed to enjoy some local delicacies including the Schnitzel and was not impressed so much by it. We then decided to explore what else Graz have to offer just to find that there are kebab stores in every corner you turn, so the goal has been set – to find the best kebab in town. Me and Rolands have consumed more than kebab meals over the course of two weeks and managed to find the best gem in town, a well hidden place with a super friendly owner.

The kebab quest however leaves a heavy impact to our diet so in order to burn off all the extra calories, our group have decided to conquer the mighty Alps (= Alpit). The hike took us 10 hours to complete but the view was once a life time when reached the mountain cap at 1722 m height.

Needless to say, once came back to our hostel we all ate more kebabs to regain energy.
